Suction & Skimmer Fittings - Spas & Spa Baths

Many spa suction fittings no longer comply with the current standards requiring specific testing and flow rates to be listed. If you don't see your suction fitting here, this is the likely reason.

For new installations and re-plumbs, the use of approved suctions of the correct flow rate is required.
A spa pump MUST have a minimum of 2 suction points (or 1 suction and skimmer) each suction having a flow rating equivalent or greater than the pump flow rate. ie combined flow rating of 2 suctions shall be at least double the pumps maximum flow rate.
Some spa suctions have differing flow ratings depending on installation method and components used.
This category will be undergoing continual change as more suctions become approved.
You must check you pump flow rate requirements when determining the correct suction type required.
Incorrect pump/suction matching may lead to injury or death.

Any doubts, please contact us before purchasing suction fittings or use a qualified spa technician.

See further information below :

• A minimum of two functioning suction outlets per pump must be installed. Spa Suction outlets must be installed a minimum of 600mm apart, as measured from suction pipe center to suction pipe center.
• Dual suction fittings shall be placed in such locations and distances to avoid "dual blockage" by a user.
• Dual suction fittings shall not be located on seating areas or on the backrest for such seating areas.
• The maximum system flow rate shall not exceed the flow rating of any listed suction outlet cover installed. In the event of one suction outlet being completely blocked, the remaining suction outlets serving the system shall have a flow rating capable of the full flow of the pump(s).
• Never use pool or spa if any suction outlet component is damaged, broken, cracked, missing, or not securely attached.
•Replace damaged, broken, cracked, missing, or not securely attached suction outlet components immediately.
•Two or more suction outlets per pump should be installed in accordance with latest standards.

Some spa suction fittings are available with vacuum break fittings allowing higher flow ratings - this is due to the vacuum break plumbing which, once the suction becomes blocked, will suck air from the vacuum break line / vent into the suction plumbing causing the pump to cavitate and lose suction, thus allowing a trapped person to be freed.
